Ames Community Schools Heartsafe Program seeks to place AEDs in Ames schools
Along with AED Access for All, Ames Community Schools Heartsafe Program is trying to help Ames Schools beat the odds by raising the funds to place Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in every school building in the district. AED’s enable a broad range of individuals, other than emergency medical personal to safely administer defibrillation with minimal training. That is why many states have passed legislation requiring defibrillators at schools, and why the Ames Community Schools has developed an early defibrillation program.

The current Ames School District budget will not allow funding of this project so we are asking for help, to fund all of the equipment needs for the Ames school buildings we need to raise a total of $14,737.30. Donations can be made by clicking the Donate button below.

Phillips Heartstart AED

April 21, 2009 - Barry Groos, the owner of Heartlink, generously presented a Phillips HeartStart FRx Defibrillator to Mary Tappe, the Chairman of AED Access For All.

Barry has been a long time supporter of AED Access For All, and we are very thankful for this latest contribution.

The HeartStart FRx AED provides calm clear voice instructions precisely timed the the responder's actions, guiding the responder entirely through the event. Designed for real-world use, the HeartStart FRx was built to surpass rigorous testing requirements: jetting water, crushing loads up to 500 pounds and a one-meter drop onto concrete.

Cardiac Science Donates AED
to Iowa AED Access For All
Scott Barnes, Mary Tappe, and John Laktash

March 9, 2009 - AED manufacturer Cardiac Science generously donated one of their Powerheart AED G3 Automatic AEDs to our organization. The presentation (pictured above) was made by Scott Barnes of Cardiac Science, to AED Access For All officers Mary Tappe (Chairman) and John Laktash (Vice Chairman).

"This is such a generous gift!", stated Mary Tappe, SCA Survivor and Founder of AED Access for All. "Knowing that we will now be prepared with a live AED at all of our events, and speaking engagements allows us to set the stage to have an AED everywhere we work, play and pray!"

The PowerHeart AED G3 Automatic AED is designed to deliver a defibillating shock (if appropriate) without the user having to press a button. Some of the other features are:
  • Rescue Ready technology to self-test all main components (battery, hardware, software, and pads) daily. It completes a partial charge of the high-voltage electronics weekly, and a full charge monthly.
  • Calculates electrical impedance and if subsequent shocks are necessary, the proprietary STAR biphasic technology escalates the energy to deliver therapy at an appropriate, higher level.
